30% Higher R-Values with New DuPont™ Styrofoam™ Brand Plazamate™ XR and Hydrotech’s Monolithic Membrane 6125®

Architects and commercial building owners can achieve improved R-values from their roofing systems using an American Hydrotech, Inc.® Protected Membrane Roof assembly featuring Styrofoam Brand Plazamate XR Foam Insulation.

At R 6.7 per inch1, Styrofoam™ Brand Plazamate™ XR has the highest thermal resistance per inch of any XPS roofing insulation. This can reduce insulation thickness as much as two inches for R40 roofs, making Plazamate™ XR ideal in height constrained installations. Less layers of insulation may be required to achieve the code mandated R-values, resulting in labor, shipping and handling savings.

With a 30-percent higher R-value, this evolutionary, low-global warming potential (GWP) Styrofoam™ Brand insulation product provides exceptional thermal-insulating performance and offers users the LEED Embodied Carbon/LCA Optimization credit.

Styrofoam Brand Plazamate XR Foam Insulation:

  • Minimizes roof assembly thickness
  • Provides exceptional R-value and R-value retention (resistance to heat flow), at R 6.7 per inch
  • Has the same outstanding thermal warranty and mechanical properties as the classic Styrofoam Brand Plazamate
  • Assists in reducing overall project costs
  • Compliant with HFC regulations, HFC-134a free XPS, and has a zero-ozone depletion potential
  • Complies with formaldehyde and VOC requirements of California Department of Public Health CDPH 01350 v1.2
  • XR means Xtra R-value

As leaders in innovative technology, American Hydrotech and DuPont collaborated on development of this next-generation product to benefit the commercial roofing industry. By furnishing greater R-value with less material and less labor, the project cost can be reduced while delivering a higher performing building.

Styrofoam™ Brand Plazamate™ XR Foam Insulation is now available for commercial roofing applications in the U.S. exclusively through American Hydrotech.

“Styrofoam™ Brand Plazamate™ XR Foam Insulation is a perfect pairing with our Monolithic Membrane 6125® waterproofing membrane for high-performance commercial roofing assemblies,” says Stan Graveline, Sr. Vice President, and Business Manager, American Hydrotech. “We’re proud to partner with DuPont to provide architects and engineers the ultimate in design flexibility, along with LEED-qualifying, sustainability features for their commercial roofing projects.”

“DuPont innovation has enabled the highest R-value per inch XPS insulation on the market for use in PMR roofing assemblies. This solution, which is based on a low embodied carbon technology platform, delivers 30% more R-value per inch, while maintaining the same thermal and mechanical performance, and ease of use expected by our Styrofoam™ Brand XPS customers," says Shawn Hunter, Global Sustainability Director, DuPont Performance Building Solutions. “Our sustainability commitment is closely aligned with American Hydrotech’s. We’re committed to continuing partnerships like this that help drive total carbon of buildings to zero, advance circularity within the industry, and deliver green chemistry solutions in the market.”
