Shakespeare® has been a trusted brand in the yard care industry for over 50 years. With customers and consumers becoming more in tune with the needs of our planet, Shakespeare has committed to introducing new lawn and garden products that are more environmentally responsible without sacrificing quality and performance.

“Consumer testing revealed that in general they simply don't believe a trimmer line can be both extremely durable and more environmentally friendly, but these next generation trimmer lines have been engineered to facilitate the start of that trend,” said Brian Thielbar, Consumer Products Business Manager at Shakespeare.

Traditional Nylon trimmer line takes hundreds of years to break down. Made from a proprietary blend of materials, Shakespeare’s new trimmer line biodegrades up to thirty times faster than a conventional trimmer line in an anaerobic landfill.* “It isn’t 100% biodegradable, but we are working towards getting as close as we can,” added Thielbar.

Shakespeare’s new trimmer line is 20% more durable than the company’s current professional grade line. The twisted design of this trimmer line also provides the added benefit of up to 15% longer runtime when compared to non-twist trimmer lines. Together, this means the new trimmer line from Shakespeare allows for reduced material consumption by the end-user, as well as reduced overall energy consumption.

"It's a major breakthrough for the outdoor power equipment industry to have a trimmer line that is not only biodegradable* but also more durable than our current professional grade line,” added Thielbar.

These new trimmer lines are now available in retail stores under the brand names Shakespeare, Rhino-Tuff, and Weed Warrior.

*24% biodegradation within 1 year via ASTM D5511 testing method in an anaerobic landfill. Anaerobic landfills may not exist in your area. Note that stated rate and extent of degradation do not mean the product will continue to decompose. Trimmer line remnants left in the yard may not necessarily experience this same level of biodegradation. The results of those tests are still pending. Not for sale in California, Maryland, Michigan, and Washington.
