Covaris, LLC Provides Notice of Data Event
Woburn, MA | December 23, 2024 - Today, Covaris, LLC ("Covaris") issued notice of a recent data event that may impact the privacy of certain individuals' personal information.
In February 2024, Covaris observed unexpected activity within its computer system. Covaris investigated the nature and scope of the activity. The investigation determined that an unauthorized actor first accessed its computer system on February 26, 2024. Covaris investigated to understand what data the unauthorized actor could have viewed using its access and undertook a separate comprehensive review of the accessible dataset to determine whether it contained any sensitive information about individuals. Covaris recently completed its review. To provide notice to identified individuals, Covaris then worked to identify contact information through internal and public records searches. There is no indication that the unauthorized actor accessed the computer systems of Covaris' parent company, PerkinElmer U.S. LLC.
The investigation determined that the accessible dataset included first and last names in combination with identifiers such as Social Security number, driver's license number, date of birth, financial account information, health information, or username and password of a limited group of identified individuals.
Covaris takes this event and the security of information in our care seriously. Upon observing the unexpected activity, Covaris investigated to determine the nature and scope of the event. Covaris also implemented additional technical safeguards to help prevent a similar event in the future.
Covaris encourages individuals to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud by reviewing account statements and monitoring free credit reports over the next twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) months for suspicious activity and to detect errors.
