DETROIT PBS PROVIDES NOTICE OF DATA EVENT

Detroit, Michigan, February 21, 2025 - Detroit PBS is providing notice of an incident which occurred in 2024 that may affect information related to certain individuals who provided their information to the station.

On September 1, 2024, Detroit PBS detected suspicious activity related to certain systems within its environment. It took steps to secure its environment and launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that between August 12, 2024 and August 31, 2024, an unauthorized actor gained access to Detroit PBS's computer network and potentially accessed and/or acquired a limited number of files.

Detroit PBS determined, through its investigation, that the information potentially accessed or acquired varies by individual and included a limited number of individuals' name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license number, financial account information, username and password, medical information, and health insurance information. While unaware of any actual or attempted misuse of any personal information, Detroit PBS is providing impacted individuals with details about the incident, its response, and resources available to help protect their information from possible misuse, should they feel it appropriate to do so.

Detroit PBS takes this incident and the security of information within its care very seriously. Upon discovery of this incident, Detroit PBS immediately launched an in-depth investigation to determine the full nature and scope of this incident. As part of its ongoing commitment to the privacy of information in its care, Detroit PBS strengthened its existing security policies and procedures as well as implemented additional security measures to further protect against similar incidents in the future. Detroit PBS is also notifying state regulators, as required.

Detroit PBS encourages all potentially impacted individuals to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud by reviewing account statements and monitoring free credit reports for suspicious activity and to detect errors.
