Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners and Esri Partner on GIS Integration for Smart City Development
The mapping technology will enable Peachtree Corners to analyze data in real time, advancing smart city planning and management initiatives
PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga., May 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Peachtree Corners - one of the nation's first smart cities powered by real-world connected infrastructure and 5G - today announced a strategic partnership with Esri, the global leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, to deploy ArcGIS Online(SM) and ArcGIS Velocity(SM) for city management and Internet of Things (IoT) analytics. The integration will enable Peachtree Corners to seamlessly visualize, analyze and consolidate data from connected smart city solutions, unlocking actionable insights across the city.
Esri's ArcGIS Velocity, a software-as-a-service IoT application for processing, visualizing, and analyzing real-time data, will aggregate real-time IoT device data, giving Peachtree Corners immediate insight by combining information gathered from the city's existing and newly deployed technologies, empowering leaders with critical information ranging from traffic flow to crowd movement. ArcGIS Online will support robust mapping, spatial analytics, field operations support, data management, imagery, and remote sensing, while ArcGIS Velocity enables enhanced service delivery for various civic departments, ultimately improving the quality of life for residents.
"Here in Peachtree Corners, we are committed to using technology to create a safer, smarter and more connected community for our residents and businesses," said Brian Johnson, City Manager of Peachtree Corners. "Bringing Esri's ArcGIS Velocity into our smart city ecosystem gives our ecosystem partners an opportunity to integrate with the world's leading geospatial platform, for a full-scale view of every connected asset, from traffic signals to environmental sensors. We look forward to exploring the many ways in which this comprehensive technology can let us spot patterns, predict issues, and act before they impact our community. It's a force-multiplier that moves us from reactive fixes to proactive, data-driven decisions, facilitating efficiency for existing and future integrated technologies."
ArcGIS Velocity connects and integrates data through a geographical context, allowing cities to make data-driven decisions. By visualizing data points in 2D, 3D and real time, ArcGIS Velocity combines location services with advanced cartographic tools to drive spatial modeling and analysis. The software provides additional asset and network management through real-time location and condition monitoring, supports urban planning and development with content-rich digital twins that integrate GIS with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and streamlines land management with an authoritative geographic database.
"Our Peachtree Corners use case will serve as the standard for what's possible when innovative city leadership offers a real-world stage for technology like ArcGIS," said Tammy Mccracken, Senior Consultant for IoT Strategy for Esri. "Streaming live feeds from thousands of sensors and traffic signals into one interactive map allows city officials to spot trends as they emerge, whether that's a congestion pinch-point or a public works issue, and act in minutes instead of hours. We're grateful to the city for embracing open collaboration, because the insights we gain here will echo far beyond Georgia. What works on Curiosity Lab's infrastructure can scale seamlessly - from one corridor to an entire region - without rewriting a single line of code."
