CHINA AEROSPACE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION (CASC) is a large state-owned enterprise with its own famous brands such as Shenzhou and Long March, outstanding innovative capabilities, and strong core competitiveness. Having originated from the Fifth Academy of the Ministry of National Defense established on October 8, 1956 and experienced the historic evolution of the Seventh Ministry of Machinery Industry, the Ministry of Space Industry, the Ministry of Aerospace Industry, and China Aerospace Corporation, CASC was formally founded on July 1, 1999 with its headquarters in Beijing.

CASC has 8 large R&D and production complexes, including the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT), Academy of Aerospace Solid Propulsion Technology (AASPT), China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), Academy of Aerospace Liquid Propulsion Technology (AALPT), Sichuan Academy of Aerospace Technology (SAAT), Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST), China Aerospace Times Electronics Corporation (CATET), and China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics (CAAA), as well as a number of specialized companies, such as China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC).

CASC is mainly engaged in the research, design, manufacture and launch of space systems, such as launch vehicles, satellites and manned spaceships as well as strategic and tactical missiles, and also provides international commercial satellite launch services. It has the capability and experience needed to perform large system engineering management. Its R&D and industrial bases are mainly distributed over Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xi'an, Chengdu, Inner Mongolia, Hong Kong (Shenzhen) and Hainan. CASC pays special attention to product development in areas, such as satellite applications, information technology, new materials and regenerative energy, special space technology applications, special vehicles and auto parts, and space biology, and has formed a good development pattern. Over the past decades, CASC has made outstanding contributions to the national economic, social and scientific development of the region.

By the end of 2013, CASC has had a total of RMB 294.02 billion assets. It boasted of more than 170 thousand employees in total, including more than 30 academics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

At present, CASC is constructing a new aerospace industrial system to accelerate business development, covering space systems, defense systems, aerospace technology applications and other aerospace services. It has been promoting cooperation, innovation and has contributed to the peaceful exploration of space for the mankind.
