Established in 1982 as a Turkish-U.S. company under the name of HAVELSAN-AYDIN, HAVELSAN, began its operations in 1985 with 98 percent of its capital owned by Turkish Armed Forces Foundation. HAVELSAN is active in the areas of software intensive systems, and has focused on Air Defense, Naval Combat, Simulation and Training and Management Information Systems, Energy Management Systems and Homeland Security within the context of Command and Control Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems (C4ISR).

In addition to military systems, Havelsan signed off on its first civilian projects in 2001 with the National Judicial Network (UYAP) and Cadastral Information System (TAKBIS) projects. By signing the CN-235 Level D Flight Simulator agreement in 2002 with South Korea, it realized its first export to a foreign country.

In 2004, HAVELSAN assumed the responsibility of the integration of a combat management system to a platform, by means of the Ship Integrated Combat Management System (GENESIS). Beginning in 2006, HAVELSAN started activities in homeland security and energy management in order to make use of the extensive engineering know-how in the areas of C4ISR, simulation, and information systems. HAVELSAN aims to increase its market share in the fields of homeland security and energy management in the future. In addition to all of these developments, it is also focused on growth in overseas markets.
