MEDIA ADVISORY: Tide Loads of Hope Brings Laundry Service Relief to Evacuees Affected by British Columbia Fires

Tide Loads of Hope:

WHO: Services available to all families or individuals who have been displaced from their homes and emergency services workers who are in need of laundry services in the wake of the B.C. wildfires.

WHAT: Beginning Thursday July 27, 2017, Tide will be providing free, full-service laundry at McCleaners Laundromat (437 Seymour Street, Kamloops, B.C.) to assist those currently displaced by the B.C. wildfires. The Tide Loads of Hope services will allow those displaced by the fires, as well the disaster relief responders, to drop off their laundry to be washed, dried and folded, free of charge. WHY: The recent wildfires have devastated multiple communities across the province and have forced over 45,000 residents from their homes, leaving them without basic needs and resources. Tide has a history of giving back to the communities where we live and work, and we want to provide the comforts of home to those who need it most. These services are free and available to people affected by the disaster and the volunteers who are helping to respond.

WHERE: Tide will be partnering with McCleaners Laundromat (437 Seymour Street, Kamloops, B.C.) to provide free, full-service laundry. The Tide Loads of Hope services will allow those displaced by the fires as well the disaster relief responders to drop off their laundry to be washed, dried and folded, free of charge.

WHEN: Beginning Thursday July 27th, laundry will be collected from 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. All washable clothing types can be accepted with the exception of heavy bedding. The current limit is two loads per family.

We expect to stay on location for about 7 days or, until the immediate needs of the local population are met. We’ll provide 24 hours’ notice before we discontinue services and leave the area.

ABOUT TIDE LOADS OF HOPE:
Tide Loads of Hope was created in 2005 to provide much needed free laundry services to families affected by Hurricane Katrina. Inspired by the resilience and spirit of the people of New Orleans, Tide was driven to expand the Loads of Hope program and has since helped families across Canada and the US affected by disaster. The Loads of Hope laundry program came to Canada for the first time in June 2013 following the Alberta floods.
