Bureau of Meteorology Selects Zenoss Software as a Service

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Zenoss Inc., the leader in hybrid IT monitoring and analytics software, today announced that the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), Australia's national weather, climate and water agency, has deployed Zenoss software as a service. By selecting Zenoss as a Service (ZaaS), the Zenoss hosted solution, the BOM achieves all the benefits of unified monitoring and service assurance without the management burden -- allowing the agency to reduce costs and allocate staffing and hardware resources more effectively.

The BOM has been a Zenoss customer for many years, with Zenoss monitoring portions of their IT infrastructure. The move to ZaaS allows the agency to monitor their cloud, virtual and physical IT infrastructures throughout the country from a single unified platform.

"Zenoss software as a service and Zenoss Service Dynamics give us a better view of the business impact of our infrastructure," said Wesam Al-Sudani, BOM command centre manager. "Zenoss provides us with better analytics and gives us the ability to proactively monitor the health of our IT environments before things go wrong."

The IT Monitoring Solution for the BOM's Complex Infrastructure

With a complex IT infrastructure that spans various technologies and multiple regions across the Australian continent, the BOM required a solution that would help the agency quickly identify, troubleshoot and resolve IT service issues. Zenoss allows the BOM to align its global infrastructure, unify monitoring initiatives, and focus on proactive projects rather than managing disparate tools.

"Zenoss is agentless and flexible in terms of the different protocols it uses to monitor devices such as SNMP, WinRM, AWS cloud, vSphere monitoring, Oracle database monitoring and others," Al-Sudani said. "The platform is easily configurable and provides customizable dashboards that allow us to view and track system performance at a glance."

Zenoss as a Service for the BOM

With ZaaS, Zenoss handles all deployment, backup and restore, and patching services for the BOM. ZaaS utilizes Amazon's industry-leading web services platform to help customers reduce costs while dramatically improving efficiency and introducing a new paradigm for understanding IT service health.

"Millions of Australians rely on the BOM for weather forecasts, warnings and advice," said Brian Wilson, chief customer officer at Zenoss. "An IT service issue could have serious implications not only for the BOM but also for the individuals, businesses and other government agencies that rely on that information."

"Zenoss software as a service is a global solution that provides advanced service assurance capabilities without the cost, complexity or overhead of multiple tools running on multiple systems," Wilson said. "The BOM is leveraging the Zenoss platform to streamline and transform its hybrid IT environment."
