Illinois Vet Elected National Vice Commander of Legion

A U.S. Air Force veteran and former commander of the Illinois American Legion was elected national vice commander of the two-million member veteran’s organization during its national convention in Reno, Nev., today.

William “Bill” Flanagan, of American Legion Poelker Post 321 in New Baden, Ill., has held various offices at every level of The American Legion. At the national level he served as a member of the organization’s National Foreign Relations Committee and as an aide to then-National Commander Marty Conatser, also of Illinois. Flanagan has been active with the Illinois Department Safety, Law and Order Committee for more than 20 years.

He also serves as a finance officer for his American Legion post and worked for the phone company for 35 years.

He is married to Ann Flanagan and is one of 12 national officers in The American Legion.
