Air Force Vet from Michigan Named National Historian of the American Legion

A Vietnam War veteran from Michigan was appointed national historian of the two-million member American Legion during the organization’s national convention in Reno, Nev., today

Richard T. Dubay served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1966 to December 1969. During his service he was assigned to Otis Air Force Base in Massachusetts and also served in Thailand and Vietnam.

An American Legion member since 1986, he is an honorary life member of Harry Ollrich Post 4 in Mount Clemens Michigan. Dubay has served as post commander, district commander, department(state) historian and department vice commander. Additionally he has served on various department committees and is currently serving on the department national security committee. Dubay also was active with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America with his son for numerous years.

On the national level, Dubay is serving on the national security council and is a member of Army, Navy, and Air Force Veterans in Canada and United States (ANAVICUS).

Prior to retirement, Dubay worked in security at the St. Clair Power Plant and previously worked as a supervisor for a manufacturing firm.

Dubay and his wife Mary have been married for 47 years. They have 4 children, 3 daughters and a son. They also have 10 grandchildren and are expecting their 11th grandchild this November, all are members of The American Legion Family.

Dubay is one of twelve national officers in The American Legion.
