American Casting & Manufacturing Explains the Best Methods for Choosing & Using Pull-Up Cable Seals

PLAINVIEW, N.Y., May 2, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- As a producer of security seals, American Casting & Manufacturing is compliant with the ISO standards and procedures that are recognized and required worldwide for high security seals. In order to ensure proper use of safety seals, AC&M lists and discusses the methods for choosing and using pull-up cable seals.

In order to choose the best seal for the job, companies must:

Determine the type of seal needed and why. In general, pull-up or "adjustable" cable seals are mainly chosen for greater strength, when a plastic or wire seal is too easily cut open, or cannot withstand the extreme environmental temperatures or occasional physical impact.Cable seals are also beneficial for deterring or preventing quick and easy opening by persons who would maliciously open a seal without concern. Another seal type that is favorable for some is the longer seal with thinner cables. These seals are useful because they are easier to bend, or turn, and can be used to fit in places where other seals cannot.

Establish the use of the seal. Some popular applications for cable seals include tank and tank truck valves, truck and container doors, hoppers, gates, control panels and meter boxes, tagging machinery, vehicles, and high value storage containers that are not frequently opened. For these jobs, American Casting & Manufacturing recommends the longer seals with thinner cables.

Know the material needed. Need a seal that can resist corrosion easily? Aluminum body seals are popular because they can resist corrosion easily and have the capability to add marking by laser, such as logotypes and barcodes. Steel seals, on the other hand, are popular for their stronger body and more durable marking, which is physically stamped into the seal. These stamps are limited to very simple logotypes, usually letters and numbers.

Be familiar with proper handling and use. With all seal types, proper control, record keeping, and inspection is important. Most seals have cable that will fray or spread when cutting, so reuse is not possible. However, for cable seals that do not fray after cutting, it is recommended that you cut off the excess cable after sealing. It is important to insert, lock, and remove cable seals properly. AC&M also recommends complete disposal of the seals after use by either crushing the body with a hammer or destroying the markings with a sharp hand tool
