NuCurrent Expands Global Patent Portfolio with Six Newly Granted Patents

USPTO grants six new patents focused on improving the performance and reducing the size of wireless power coils, and brings NuCurrent to over 75 patents granted or pending worldwide

CHICAGO, May 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- NuCurrent, an industry leader in wireless power systems and technology development, announces the granting of six patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The new patents focus on improving the performance and reducing the size of wireless power antennas, and further strengthen the international intellectual property position of NuCurrent by bringing the company to over 75 patents granted or pending worldwide.

The granted patents provide performance and form factor advantages for wireless power systems that require multiple wireless protocols and/or a reduced bill-of-materials (BOM) cost. For example, NuCurrent can combine Qi, AirFuel and NFC coils all onto one substrate and utilize common turns and connections to reduce the overall footprint of the printed circuit board (PCB) while simultaneously enhancing performance.

"Wireless charging has already arrived in mobile devices with Apple, Samsung and others selecting the Qi standard. This technology also has broad applicability in other segments including automotive, consumer devices, IoT, medical, handheld computing, robotics and beyond, which is why continuous innovation is necessary," said Jacob Babcock, CEO, NuCurrent. "As power levels increase and device sizes shrink, NuCurrent continues to be at the forefront of innovation - with these newly granted patents as the latest examples. We are constantly working on the toughest challenges in wireless power and developing intellectual property that produces innovative systems for customers through improved performance, reduced sizes and improved cost."

NuCurrent's newly granted patents complement its growing IP portfolio that includes its multi-layer-multi-turn (MLMT) technology, which produces the world's thinnest and most efficient antennas for wireless power transfer. This technology - which is part of the company's NuIQ(TM) Technology Platform - is designed to develop efficient wireless power systems in a variety of product categories including smartphones, wearable devices, and industrial computing devices. With the NuIQ Platform, engineers and product managers can streamline wireless power systems development through industry-leading magnetics, hyper-accurate hardware simulators, precision firmware controls, and turnkey system modules.
