Arden Media Company says in-building wireless technology advances could push broader CRE connectivity to the "middleprise"

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A new report published this week by RCR Wireless News, an Arden Media Company publication, points out that despite the fact that many large office buildings and entertainment venues have been connected via DAS and other in-building wireless technologies, buildings under 1 million square feet still lack the connectivity options required to make them attractive to tenants in the digital age. However, the report finds that technology advances in DAS and small cells technologies is changing the dynamic for wireless build-outs for buildings of all sizes. The report, entitled, "The Great Indoors: In-Building Wireless is a Must" is available for download by clicking here.

"The ability to virtualize RAN architectures is helping to pave the way for next-generation DAS systems," says Jason Marcheck, principal analyst at Layne Bridge and Associates and author of the report. "These enhancements combined with small cells solutions that are easier to site, operate, and maintain will play a crucial role in helping to enable pervasive in-building connectivity."

Specifically, as the economics of deploying robust fiber architectures both in the last mile, and throughout a building become more attractive from a long-term TCO perspective, deployment flexibility for DAS and small cells networks will also increase. As this happens, building owners will be in better position to justify the investments that will be critical to meeting the demands of tenants, and thus, maintaining attractive NOI metrics for their portfolios.

The report also examines the role that CBRS, and 802.11ax (i.e., WiFi 6) can play in helping building owners to equip their properties to meet the demands of the IoT and/or Industry 4.0 era.

"As venues, both large and small, move beyond the need to provide basic Internet connectivity, there will be an 'all hands on deck' approach to creating in-building wireless architectures capable of handing the demands of not only digital native companies and their employees, but also for IoT in general. Here is where new technologies such as CBRS and WiFi 6 will need to serve as effective companions to DAS and small cells," Marcheck concludes.
