Husky Energy Deploys Ambyint’s AI Technology across Rainbow Lake Field and Demonstrates Impact That IIoT Can Have on Operational Excellence in Oil & Gas

Ambyint, the emerging leader in AI-driven artificial lift and production optimization, in conjunction with Spartan Controls, Western Canada’s leading provider of industrial automation, today announced Husky Energy’s commitment to deploy its technology on all its wells in Rainbow Lake. The announcement comes after successful pilot deployments of Ambyint’s IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) -enabled edge controllers and leading to full field expansion.

During the pilot, Husky realized immediate benefits by achieving a meaningful improvement in well uptime and operating costs, together resulting in a 2-month payback. As its use expands, Husky expects to generate further value through reductions in electricity and maintenance costs. “Ambyint’s solution delivered significant improvements in uptime and operational efficiency, leading to a quick payback on the technology,” said Justin Chadwick, Husky’s production engineer for the Rainbow Lake asset.

As part of Husky’s strategic initiative to unlock value through IIoT and AI, Ambyint is continuing to strengthen the partnership by actively working in other fields across the Western Canada Business Unit (WCBU) to deliver similar results and expand its deployment.

Dick Unsworth, VP of Production for WCBU commented, “Husky is committed to leveraging AI innovations to improve its operations and financial performance, and this project can help us deliver.”

Husky is actively testing Ambyint’s Autonomous Set-Point Management capability to autonomously optimize its wells to improve production and asset efficiency. The companies are also jointly exploring additional applications for collaboration across WCBU and other Husky business units.

“We are proud to work with Husky Energy and Ambyint on this project,” said Chris Breen, Manager at Spartan Controls, a leading provider of industrial process automation and the exclusive representative of Ambyint in Western Canada. “This is an opportunity to combine Ambyint’s industry-leading technologies and Spartan’s customer experience model as we continue to meet the needs of our customer.”

“Ambyint’s end-to-end, edge and cloud solution continues to deliver substantial operational improvements to customers by combining the best of traditional physics-based methods with modern artificial intelligence and machine learning,” said Alex Robart, Ambyint CEO. Ambyint’s data science success is fueled by the industry’s largest repository of high-resolution data, totaling nearly 100 million operating hours. As a result, Ambyint has already helped customers show 20%+ reductions in operating expenses and as much as 10% improvements in production volumes. “We are just beginning to scratch the surface on the value that we can deliver with AI across Husky’s and other Canadian operators’ assets.”

Gartner Research shows that as O&G companies continue under sustained pressure to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their operations, that AI will be a priority for more than 25% of oil and gas CIO’s by 2020. In 2021, AI augmentation is expected to generate $2.9 trillion in business value and recover 6.2 billion hours of worker productivity 1.
