Safran Nacelles’ latest large-sized nacelle enters airline service with the Airbus A330neo jetliner

Safran Nacelles' newest engine nacelle has entered service on Airbus' A330neo with TAP Air Portugal's introduction of the A330-900 – marking another important milestone underscoring Safran Nacelles' position as an industry leader for nacelles that equip the world's most modern jetliners.

This twin-engine aircraft is one of two A330neo (New Engine Option) versions equipped with Safran Nacelles-supplied nacelles, which benefit from the company's experience in proven large-sized nacelle systems. Features of the A330neo nacelle include the extensive use of composite materials for lighter weight, enhanced performance through the optimization of its aerodynamics, and lower noise with the application of improved acoustic treatment.

From design to engine integration, Safran Nacelles has complete responsibility for nacelles on the A330neo – which is offered by Airbus in the A330-900 version (seating 287 passengers with a typical three-class layout), and the shorter-fuselage A330-800 variant (accommodating 257 passengers in a similar three-class configuration).

With the A330neo's nacelle sized at an external diameter of 3.65 meters, it is in the same very large category as the Safran Nacelles-built nacelles used on one of the largest passenger aircraft in service today – the Airbus A380.

Launch customer TAP Air Portugal inaugurated its A330neo service on the carrier's 10-plus-hour route linking the Portuguese capital city of Lisbon to São Paulo, Brazil.

To date, Airbus has booked more than 220 firm orders for A330neo jetliners from airlines and leasing companies around the world – including U.S. based customers Delta Air Lines and Air Lease Corporation, along with operators and lessors in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Airbus foresees strong new sales opportunities for the A330neo, taking into account the growing demand for longer-haul capacity in such key regions as China (the world's fastest-growing air transport market), and well as replacements for aging twin-engine across the globe.
