SAE's A World In Motion® Receives $10,000 Outstanding Program Recognition Grant and $29,000 Major Gift from Arconic Foundation to Support STEM in Cleveland Schools
WARRENDALE, Pa., Jan. 24, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Arconic Foundation has selected SAE's A World In Motion® (AWIM) program to receive a $10,000 grant as a winner of its 2018 Month of Recognition Contest and a recipient of a $29,000 major gift. The Arconic Foundation grants recognize the successful partnership between the two organizations that melds the AWIM curriculum and Arconic volunteers into a STEM enrichment force serving Cleveland area classrooms.
The grants will be awarded at 9:45 am on Jan. 24 at Newton D. Baker School of Arts, 3690 West 159th St., Cleveland, OH 44111.
Throughout the year, Arconic employee volunteer teams receive recognition by company leaders and through employee media channels and social media. This recognition culminates each October when Arconic holds a company-wide Month of Recognition. Arconic Foundation sponsors a contest that awards the best volunteer initiatives with a trophy for volunteers and a $10,000 grant to the associated nonprofit organizations.
"SAE is honored to receive this recognition of AWIM from Arconic Foundation," said Chris Ciuca, Director of Pre-Professional Education at SAE. "The success of this program in Cleveland would not be possible without the incredible dedication of Arconic volunteers. They go above and beyond to help inspire young people in STEM."
Arconic Foundation has supported AWIM for the past 11 years with both financial and volunteer support and has encouraged more than 8,000 students to think STEM when choosing a career.
"As a growing, innovative company enabling aerospace and transportation industries to create tomorrow's mobility systems, it is important for us to engage and commit to help prepare young people for the manufacturing jobs of the future. Our Arconic Foundation supported partnership with SAE, now in its 11th year, has enabled 5th, 6th and 7th grade students to experience science and engage in conversations with our employees about the exciting opportunities in manufacturing," said Eric Simeonoglou, Arconic Project Lead, Technology.
AWIM provides students with the skills needed to succeed in real-world work environments and helps connect their classroom learning with real-life application. During the program, students engage in the Engineering Design Experience, which includes setting goals, building knowledge, designing, building, testing and presenting their findings to an audience of peers and/or teachers. AWIM also provides professional development opportunities for teachers. This initiative includes providing teachers with the training they need to effectively teach the curriculum, supplying all program materials and supplies to each participating classroom and giving each teacher the opportunity to have a STEM industry volunteer participate in the program.
