Dr. Mark Gold Shares Insights on Opioid Addiction in New CME Outfitters Webcast

BETHESDA, Md., March 14, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- CME Outfitters (CMEO), a leading accredited provider of continuing medical education, is excited to announce a new CME Snack, Fatal Attraction: Why Are Opioids So Addicting?, hosted by Mark S. Gold, MD, ASAM's Annual Lifetime Achievement Award winner. This 20-minute online activity is part of a CME Outfitters and USF Health nationwide educational initiative to combat inappropriate use of opioids in the management of acute and chronic pain. The project, Addressing the Opioid Epidemic: A Call to Action to Save Our Communities, is supported by an educational grant from Johnson & Johnson.

Opioids stimulate their continued use as consumption of opioids leads to increased exposure to drug cues, which triggers a desire to continue to consume opioids, resulting in compulsive use despite adverse consequences (loss of job, family distress). There are a number of complex factors leading to addiction that include dose of opioids, duration of use, and route of administration--factors conspiring to make opioids among the most addicting drugs of abuse.

In this free CME Snack, Dr. Gold discusses the biological underpinnings of addiction and the growing burden the opioid epidemic is placing on our communities. For more information on this activity, credit available, or to participate for free, click here.
