American Academy of Thermology (AAT) Publishes Revised Guidelines for Oral-Systemic Thermography

GREENVILLE, S.C., March 27, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The American Academy of Thermology (AAT), which is the premiere organization in North America for the scientific development, healthcare training and clinical application of medical infrared imaging, has published revised Guidelines for Oral-Systemic Thermography.

The revised Guidelines, which were first published in 2015, were prepared by members of the AAT as a guide to aid the performance of Dental/Systemic Health infrared imaging in evaluating patients with Dental-Oral and Systemic Health-related complaints. It implies a consensus of those substantially concerned with its scope and provisions.

The 10 areas covered by the revised Guidelines are:
1. Patient Communication and Preparation
2. Patient Assessment
3. Examination Guidelines
4. Review of the Infrared Thermography Examination
5. Presentation of Exam Finding
6. Preparation and Storage of Exam Findings
7. Exam Time Recommendations
8. Reporting
9. Continuing Professional Education
10. Emerging Technologies

Thermography is a non-invasive technology available to image and map microcirculatory shunting associated with circulatory changes in the skin. It can play an important adjunctive role in the assessment of Dental-Oral and certain Systemic Health related illnesses, diseases, and in their clinical diagnosis. When performed and interpreted within the scope of these Guidelines, Dental/Systemic Health Thermography can also play a useful role in monitoring treatment effects of dental-oral and specified systemic health conditions.

Commented Jeffrey J. Lefko, Executive Director of the AAT: "Other structural imaging technologies such as X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT, and MRI, do not provide the information offered by Dental/Systemic Health Thermal Imaging. The clinical application of Thermography can help physicians both understand patho-physiology and improve patient outcomes."
