San Gabriel Valley Water & Power Sets the Record Straight with City of Diamond Bar

LOS ANGELES, March 28, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Anthony Barkett, Acting President of San Gabriel Valley Water and Power (SGVWP) provided public comment at the City of Diamond Bar's General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) on March 21(st). Mr. Barkett provided a very brief overview of the Tres Hermanos Solar Energy and Storage project, addressing many of the misperceptions about the project that the public expressed during previous GPAC meetings.

Specifically, Mr. Barkett clarified the project would be:

-- 100-200 Megawatts of solar energy; not 440 Megawatts as was stated in
        news articles
-- 2,500 Megawatts of energy storage
-- The Project will cover approximately 500 acres and will be located west
of Grand Avenue in the southeast corner of the property
-- "Natural Open space" of 1,500+ acres to be governed by the Tres Hermanos
        Conservation Authority
-- Trails, pathways and gathering areas are planned as part of the
project, encouraging residents and families to have access to an
area that has been under lock for over 100 years
-- The initial funding for this effort would come from SGVWP
-- The project is a regional benefit as most solar and storage facilities
are located far from city centers. It is important to have local energy
generation and storage to improve the region's energy reliability,
including Diamond Bar and Chino Hills

"As some of your residents have said in previous meetings, 'we want the open spaces, but we also really need recreation and parkland that is useable,' SGVWP agrees completely," said Anthony Barkett. "We strongly believe no form of commercial development should be put on Tres Hermanos and the current 'open space' standards do not protect building from happening. SGVWP is committed to keeping it open space and accessible to the public."
