Hexion Wins ACC Responsible Care® Awards in Three Categories

Three programs and 19 facilities at Hexion Inc. (“Hexion” or the “Company”) were recently named Responsible Care® award winners and honored for excellence in waste minimization, energy efficiency and employee health and safety by the American Chemistry Council (ACC).

The ACC honored the following Hexion programs and sites at its 2019 Responsible Care Conference & Expo:

Waste Minimization Category

Acme, NC – Hexion’s team executed a project in 2018 resulting in an annual reduction of approximately 7 million gallons of wastewater treated through the waste treatment plant, significantly reducing the amount of electricity consumed by the associated process equipment and removing more than 50 tanker trucks from the road.

Hope, AR – Upgrades at Hexion’s facility here resulted in reducing distillate water disposal volumes by more than 75 percent, while significantly reducing external disposal volumes and eliminating more than 50 truck shipments of wastewater from the roadways.

Energy Efficiency Award

Hope, AR – After benchmarking this facility against other Company facilities, the Hope team identified the cooling tower operation as the most significant opportunity for improvement. The team went to work and identified process and system changes with the goal to improve the efficiency of the tower by 20 percent. As a result of the improved electrical efficiency of the tower, total site electrical consumption was reduced by nearly 2 percent.

Facility Safety Award – ACC presents these awards to member companies with significant achievements in employee health and safety performance. In total, 19 of the Company’s sites received this distinction:
