Akins Ford Donates Ford Transit Minibus to Georgia Nonprofit

WINDER, Ga., Aug. 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In the spirit of giving back, Akins Ford presented Extra Special People with a new minibus at a special event for the organization on Monday.

ESP is a nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for people with disabilities and their families to engage, connect and thrive. To date, the organization has served over 2,000 individuals and 450 families.

The new wheelchair-accessible 2018 Ford Transit minibus was paid for completely by Akins Ford and the Ford Motor Company Fund. The Ford Fund is a philanthropic arm of Ford that works with nonprofit partners and Ford dealers to provide access to opportunities and resources to empower people to reach their full potential.

Benna Deese, manager of Global Development and Atlanta Outreach at Ford Motor Company, said giving back to the community a deep-seated value at Ford.

"It's something that dates back to our founder Henry Ford, who believed that a company that makes only money is a poor business," Deese said. "And so we have tried to carry on that legacy of Henry Ford of giving back to our communities so that they can become sustainable on their own. He didn't believe in a handout. He believed in a hand up."

Brad Akins, owner of Akins Ford, and his wife, Vanessa, have both been long-time supporters of ESP. The couple recently donated to support the construction of the organization's Miracle League baseball complex, helping fund one of the field's dugouts.

"We are all-in for Extra Special People," Akins said. "Of course we were ready to invest in our community of kids with special needs to bring them a baseball field and sports complex. They deserve nothing less."
