Othram Launches Forensic Genealogy Service for Law Enforcement

THE WOODLANDS, Texas, Oct. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Othram announced today the formation of an in-house forensic genealogy research team including Anthony Lukas Redgrave and Lee Bingham Redgrave, pioneers in the emerging field of forensic genetic genealogy. This team, along with data scientists and software developers, completes Othram's full-service forensic DNA sequencing program enabling law enforcement agencies to work with a single vendor to extract, enrich, test, and analyze DNA not amenable to other approaches.

"Since piloting the service earlier this year, we have amassed an increasing number of cases in which we successfully produced unique genetic information from samples that failed at other laboratories using traditional methodologies," said David Mittelman, Othram CEO. "We are thrilled with the synergies that pairing our technology with expert forensic genealogists create, to offering law enforcement agencies a one-stop solution for helping them solve their toughest cases."

Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing(TM) harnesses the power of massively parallel sequencing, paired with proprietary laboratory methods, computational algorithms, and database resources. The technology enables forensic professionals to break through previously impenetrable forensic DNA barriers. From genealogical triangulation from DNA mixtures, to confirmation of distant relationships with trace or severely degraded DNA, Othram's testing platform digitizes many types of genetic variation throughout the genome, within a dedicated, forensically controlled laboratory.

Members of Othram's new forensic genealogy team will work closely with Othram's geneticists and software developers to produce superior genetic profiles using their proprietary technology, to maximize matches and informative yield. The team has led previous efforts in solving high-profile cases, including over a dozen cases with the DNA Doe Project, involving international research, underrepresented and endogamous populations, non-paternity events, and undocumented adoptions.

"We're excited to provide forensic genealogy to law enforcement as part of an all-inclusive package with a dedicated software development team and a forensic sequencing lab.," said Mr. Redgrave.
