Ovation Fertility Scientists Present Research at UEARS in Cairo, Egypt

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 19, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Ovation scientists have once again been honored with an opportunity to share their expertise with a global audience. Two Ovation representatives have been invited to present their research and serve as session chairpersons at the 5th Upper Egypt Assisted Reproduction Conference (UEARS), which will take place February 19-20, 2020, at the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis in Cairo, Egypt.

Matthew "Tex" VerMilyea, PhD, HCLD/CC, vice president of IVF lab operations, will chair a session titled "Cryopreservation and Gamete Biology," and will speak in the plenary session titled "Embryo Assessment Session from Simple Morphology to Artificial Intelligence." His talk, titled "Artificial Intelligence for Embryo Selection," will focus on the use of artificial intelligence on static photos of Day 5 blastocysts, and its ability to better select which embryos have a higher chance of viability and therefore successful pregnancy.

Dr. VerMilyea will also present a talk in UEARS' "ART Lab Management" session, titled "Critical Points for Witnessing Steps Throughout the IVF Process." In this talk, he will discuss how to prevent mistakes in the lab by using a manual double witnessing and electronic witnessing system.

"It is a great honor to be invited to represent Ovation at this international conference of fertility care leaders," says Dr. VerMilyea. "We are excited about the opportunity to share some of our own innovations, as well as to learn from others who are working to advance reproductive science. Through ongoing collaboration and information-sharing, we can advance the state of the art in fertility care to benefit people all over the world who need fertility treatment to grow their families."

John Whitney, senior storage manager, will give two presentations focused on storage of reproductive materials. His first presentation, "Reproductive Material Storage Best Practices," will cover everything from documents to liability, safety, inventory and patient engagement as it relates to embryo storage. His second talk, "Best Practices for Cryo-Storage Alarm Implementation," will be focused on alarm protocols for cryostorage, including how to set up an alarm, how to ensure response and how to validate a system. Whitney will also moderate a session for submitted research.

"Through the collaborative efforts of Ovation partner physicians and scientists, we have been able to build a highly secure storage program and facilities to protect the embryos, eggs and sperm that represent future families for the patients we serve," Whitney says. "I'm honored to have been invited to share some of our best practices and innovations to help other fertility providers advance the overall state of the art in fertility storage."

More than 2,000 fertility professionals from all over the world are expected to attend this year's UEARS conference, including gynecologists, andrologists, lab directors, embryologists and researchers.
