American Paper Optics Leverages Manufacturing to Produce Customizable Face Shields

As schools and other businesses around the country begin to reopen, American Paper Optics, the largest 3D glasses manufacturing company in the world and the #1 supplier of eclipse glasses for the 2017 U.S. total eclipse, has repurposed a portion of its manufacturing facilities to produce simple, low-cost face shields. APO is expecting to produce 10,000 face shields per day to meet the high demand for PPE.

“A point of pride at American Paper Optics is our ability to shift operations to address the changing needs of our clients,” said John Jerit, CEO of American Paper Optics. “As schools reopen and businesses begin to ramp up, the number one need is to keep employees and students safe.”

American Paper Optics has created a new line of FDA-approved, fun, interactive face shields called “Personal Protective Expressions” (PPE) that focus on the fun side of safety. With 12 bold graphic designs and more expected (including hearts, emojis and a bandana), there is something for everyone to express themselves and add a layer of protection.

“COVID-19 has shaken our communities. We wanted to do something that had a positive message in a time of need. We leveraged our creativity and came up with our own way to take protective fun to the market. Fun and PPE do not necessarily go together, but we certainly wanted to try. So far, the response has been great,” Jerit said.

American Paper Optics’ face shields serve as a cost-effective solution where interpersonal engagement is necessary. Schools, businesses and charities (including Aerosmith’s front man Steven Tyler’s Janie’s Fund) have placed hundreds of custom orders for the anti-fog shields, which cover the entire face and are printed with branding and logos. Designed with comfort and safety in mind, the face shields are made from durable plastic which offers excellent clarity, easily accommodating eyeglasses and masks for both frontline workers and the general public.
