Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB)

This program is managed by the UPB Entrepreneurial Development Center.

It coordinates the formation on the entrepreneurial area around different Schools. It also unifies contents and carries out activities on real life, so that, the professionals in the future are seen as real businessmen , to be able to generate and offer job alternatives to themselves and the society.

It supports the educational process through formative actions that allow the growing of psycho-affective, intellectual, moral and social dimensions of mankind.

It executes preventive and promotional plans as well as corrective processes for the different university units and their families in the areas of: Bio-Psycho-social development Socio-familiar development Recreational-physical-sportive development.

It coordinates and performs the University publishing policy through the publication of academic and literary works by the university community or the society in general.

For more than half a century it has produced important works by university authors and local writers. It has its own seal and makes the commercialization of works through the University Bookstore and some others around the country. It offers its services not only to the university community, but also to the rest of the people.

It spreads out culture both inside and outside the university through: Artistic groups such as theater group, dancing group, UPB Choral .

Non formal education workshops, concerts and recitals, art expositions (monthly), University Book and Word Fair, la Guaca (annual artistic and handicraft fair), Cine Club Lumiére. Latin American Photographic Art Room (with more than 30 versions) The Iberoamerican Essay Contest René Uribe Ferrer. Bolivarian Annual Artists Room

It is in charge of strengthening the evangelization, liturgy and spiritual assistance to all the University community and to promote the Bolivarian family in its formation of values and Christian life. Their work is addressed to make faith become a culture in people’s daily life.

It is an Integral part of the University organization and its main goal is to offer a human and friendly service over the welfare matter. At present, it offers services in surgical areas, specialized medical counseling, hospitalization, diagnosis means, high complexity programs and services like those of the Bolivariana Renal Therapy Center –CTRB- and those of the Rheumatology Units, Intensive Therapy, Endoscopes, Neumology, Tissue Studies and Thorax Surgery, and Emergencies.

It takes care of the University community, external people and the ones sent by E.P.S -according to agreements, on the health and dental areas. It offers general and specialized medical consultation, phonoaudiology, diagnostic aids, clinical laboratory and electrocardiograms, vaccination, infirmary service, respiratory therapy, general odontology and specialized orthodoncy, periodoncy and aesthetic procedures.

It directs its activity towards the individual well-being and his family, for a better social coexistence. Its interdisciplinary team is composed by psychologists, familiar and neuropsychological family specialists, therapists who make educative, preventive attendance programs (family, couple and individual therapy) of investigation and support to teaching. It has published important works on the family promotion and human ecology and offers specialized courses and programs.

It works for the person’s mental health improvement and for the community life quality, with clinical, organizational, educational and social communitary scope interventions. It is an open center for both university community and its families and to the external population as well. Its qualified human team is composed by professionals and practitioners who direct psychological attention to children, teenagers, couples and families and offer psycho-pedagogical counseling, organizational psychology programs for companies, research and direction of processes and projects of community social cut.

It is a non profit organization created by graduates , who have the mission to create and to strenghen the bond between the alumni and the university and to promote the social and human projection of the former students communitarian benefit programs addressed to the graduated students from the University School, Undergraduate and Graduate programs.

It is an independent legal entity with its own regulations and direction. It was created under the University protection in order to contribute with loans without interests to the payment of tuitions and – to the employees- to the improvement of their houses. The patrimony comes from donations made by the alumni and their companies as well as from monthly payments that University teachers and employees contribute with.

It represents the educational accomplishment of the Bolivarian family through the UPB Solidarity Foundation. It has 700 registered people (San Blas District) and it offers Technical Programs In Accounting Assistance, Secretary, Gas Network Installation, Electronic Nets Installation, Preschool Education Assistance, Family Education Assistance, Communitarian Promotion, Social Welfare and Cultural Promotion in the northeastern neighborhoods.

It offers services to those who wish to reach formal friendly agreements, like an alternative mechanism for conflict resolution, on the Law and Family and Labor Law fields.

It has offered guaranteed counseling throughout more than 50 years of experience. Managed by the Law School is composed by professionals, specialists and senior students. It offers counseling and legal representation to those who need lawyer's professional services, but lack economic resources to hire one. The consultancies and legal representations are given in Penal, Civil, and Labor Law areas.

It contributes to the social, cultural and economic improvement of its associates and community by creating solidarity and mutual aid, on the basis of its associates self-effort and savings.

The UPB projects itself to low income communities by an interdisciplinary work that turns the academic practice into a learning and service source. It offers counseling, training and investigation in social-communitarian projects, by means of research processes, qualification, promotion and prevention, specially on those environmental areas, solidarity economy, education, home, organization and communitarian participation addressed to communities and institutions.

This is a community-oriented unit responding to the needs of the adult population which lack resources and has no access to formal education. It offers personalized and community services on literacy, primary and secondary school academic validation, academic updating, children’s center and some industries. It educates for life through programs designed according to the needs and social conditions of its students.

It was created with a social projection spirit in order to establish a professional practice with senior Architecture students. It offers technical counseling to the population who has limited economic resources and to non profit institutions. It looks for the the solution of housing problems to improve the quality of life and as a contribution for a more human and equitable city. It performes activities such as architectonic blueprints, processing, designs, budgets, diagnosis of constructive pathologies, architectonic civil work direction, projects and counseling for the construction of schools, communal health centers, seats, houses, parks and sport boards.

At the UPB, there is a great academic wealth inside the different areas of knowledge and a permanent stimulation and encouragement for the development of research projects within graduate and undergraduate programs, as well as the application of knowledge on society benefit. Furthermore, a constant and near relationship Enterprise -University is intended, by means of counseling services offered by the Integrated Center for Research Development (CIDI).

The increasing research activity associated to teaching generates qualified and efficient formation levels in which the under and graduate programs get feedback thanks to the systematization of this activity. The groups are consolidated and high quality knowledge is produced within the master and doctorate programs.

The research groups constitute the transverse axis of academic matters and they are permanently evaluated by a proper informational and managerial system, the software OIKOS, created by the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana as a strategy for the academic-investigative strengthening.

According to COLCIENCIAS, the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana has more than thirty research groups. Excellence groups: The Energy and Thermodynamics Group, and the Investigation, Development and Telecommunications Application Group (GIDAT). Consolidated groups: The New Materials and The Cardiovascular Dynamics Groups. And more than 20 consolidation groups and rising groups.

The CIDI coordinates both the external investigation applied to counseling projects and the internal one associated to investigative teaching. There are three fundamental policies guiding the CIDI’s performance: The Technological Management Policy. The Master, Doctorate and Research Plan. The Institutional Accreditation Policy. From its creation, The CIDI has performed more than 8,000 jobs for different companies and institutions, out of which approximately 500 correspond to research projects within the different disciplines inside the UPB.

This multidisciplinary approach has given a clear vision of each knowledge and development area. This wide experience enriches the work inside the CIDI, and thanks to the information system, I+D+I (Investigation, Development and Innovation) that tracks and registers the basic information of counseling and research of the projects, its historical route will remain in time.

INTRODUCTION TO HIGHER EDUCATION
It facilitates the transition from high school to the university by means of an intellectual and personal preparation semester for the beginning of the university life. It helps out the young to guide themselves professionally through courses, individual and group activities that prepare them for a better performance.

BASIC SCIENCE CENTER
It gathers the subjects related to Basic Science, which are common to all the engineering programs as well as others, which curricula demands that are under their own autonomy and the direction of physics, mathematics and chemistry, along with the effective development within these disciplines. It promotes, to a short and long term, the basic science development upon the preschool, basic, mid, undergraduate and graduate academic levels, as well as in the academic extension, using the latest technological, methodological and bibliographical resources.

LANGUAGE CENTER
It supports the internationalization process of the University through the teaching of classic and modern language programs: English, French, Italian, German, Japanese and Portuguese, among others, addressed to all the university community as well as the external public and taught by qualified teachers. It also offers personalized courses on the languages above as well as Spanish for foreigners.

HUMANISTICS CENTER
It looks for the integral formation of people within the framework of Christian Humanism, by means of curricular activities that contribute to the profit and development of values and human potentialities and their social projection.

LIBRARIES
The libraries system supports the University academic, scientific and cultural development. It is composed by: Mons. Darío Múnera Vélez Library, the UPB School Library (with the primary and high school sections inside the Laureles University Campus), and the one from Health Sciences at the Robledo Campus, where the Infirmary and Medicine Faculties and the University Clinic are at. As strategic knowledge centers, these libraries are equipped with high technology services in telecommunications and in a 6,236 m2 area, it has more than 150,000 volumes, 3,500 magazine titles and one collection with more than 100,000 audiovisual material.

TECHNOLOGY OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION CENTER - CTIC
It gathers together all the information and telecommunications technology from the different fields at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in order to take advantage of their synergy and increase the processes efficiency and effectiveness. In order to achieve this objective, there is an articulated planning of computer science activities and telecommunications having direct effect on the University academy, administration and investigation.

AUDIO-VISUAL PRODUCTION CENTER –CPA-
It is equipped with the latest technology in digital production. It offers media external services for televising, advertising and educational production, among others. At the same time, it supports teachers in the accomplishment of students’ audio-visual practices, especially those from Communications and Journalism, Advertising and Design.

LABORATORIES
These are specialized laboratories where the students can put into practice their own knowledge and, therefore, do research in each area of their specific fields: Mechanics, Photography, Chemistry, Environmental, Industrial Design, Medical, Textile, Television, Basic Science, Graphical Design, Electrical and Electronic Laboratory among others.
