3. Telecommunications and Signal Processing Group:

UNIVERSIDAD DEL NORTE has developed the following projects within the University with the support of Colciencias that are directly connected to the research group of Computer Networks and Software Engineering:

Telemetry system for the management of the urban public transport service:

A prototype for the collection and management of data built in a hardware device installed on buses or public transport vehicles. The data will be transmitted wirelessly to different spots along the way. The vehicle information is stored in a central node and is processed so as to improve public transportation services.

Software program for the design and analysis of steel thin-walled structures:

Software created for the process of analysis and design of steel thin-walled structures. This will manage to substantially increase the thin walled structure consumption not only nationally, but in the export countries as well.

Plant modeling and model development for industrial operation/programming of vessels:

Design and implementation of the new production plant COTECMAR under the current engineering criteria, as well as design and implementation of the COTECMAR DSS system.

Virtual communication platform, supported by intelligent agents so as to support collaborative learning processes:

Prototype application that facilitates collaborative work aiming at creating knowledge through academic discussion and using message exchange based on the fundamental concepts of a topic proposed by a tutor or moderator. In addition, the prototype allows the construction of a concept map with the participation of the whole group.

UNIVERSIDAD DEL NORTE has developed the following project within the University with the support of Colciencias that is directly connected to the research group of Robotics and Intelligent Systems:

Implementation of Color Vision Algorithms: Implementation of image processing algorithms for mobile platforms.

UNIVERSIDAD DEL NORTE has developed the following projects within the University with the support of Colciencias that are directly connected to the research group of telecommunications and signal processing:

Prototype for the Acquisition, Compression and Sending of ECG signals through the cellular mobile network via GPRS, for Telecare purposes within the Caribbean Region:

Remote monitoring system of biomedical signals built in a hardware device located at the site of interest, allowing the capture and compression of signals for afterwards sending, through the cellular mobile network and with the use of a cellular phone, towards a central node.

Short-range radar for small boats (Design phase):

The design of a continuous wave radar with short range frequency modulation so as to be used in small boats and maritime waterways.

Pulse Radar Simulator:

Simulator designed so as to find the basic characteristics and parameters of radar pulses.

UNIVERSIDAD DEL NORTE is equipped with advanced laboratories and equipment for the development of academic activities, such as the material laboratory, the hydraulic machinery laboratory, the industrial robotics laboratory etc.
