The engineering faculty of UNIVERSIDAD DE MEDELLIN trains engineers through pre-graduate and post graduate studies in the following fields: civil engineering, environmental engineering, systems engineering, telecommunications engineering and finance. Students in the engineering faculty learn to develop their research and group-working skills, as well as their creativity and second language handling.

The engineering faculty is equipped with a laboratory center, covering an area of 5221m2 with a total of 27 laboratories that support educational and research activities.

The Engineering Faculty contributes to the economic and social development of the community, and has the support of the Engineering Research Center, CEIN, which facilitates the development of research projects related to the provision of alternatives with respect to water treatment, territory environmental management, agro-environmental management, air pollution and quality, hydraulics and environmental hydrology, seismic engineering, materials and construction, water resources, geotechnics, software engineering, artificial intelligence, automation and financial risk management.

Projects:

• Design, implementation and testing of a control and navigation system for the mini robot helicopter COLIBRI.
• Design and implementation of a network for the monitoring of actuator variables.

The faculty of economics and administrative sciences of UNIVERSIDAD DE MEDELLIN trains professionals in the field of economics and administrative sciences, through pre-graduate and postgraduate studies in:

• Market Research,
• Digital Business Management,
• Management of ISO 9000 Quality systems,
• Management of Organizational Knowledge,
• Business Administration.

Through its pre-graduate and postgraduate programs, the faculty of law of UNIVERSIDAD DE MEDELLIN trains professionals in the following fields:

• Law,
• Criminal Investigation,
• Psychology,
• Tuition and Payments,
• Bogota-based law.

The faculty of communications of UNIVERSIDAD DE MEDELLIN was established in 1995 and, since then, has been focused on the preparation of professionals in the area of communication technologies.

The faculty has five research groups, one of which was classified as A1 by Colciencias, along with a research magazine rated as A2, as a recognition of the academic contribution of the faculty to society.

UNIVERSIDAD DE MEDELLIN’s research centers have as a goal to promote the generation of scientific and technological knowledge that contributes to the development of the Institution and society as well.

Juridical, Political and Social Research Center: The Juridical, Political and Social Research Center was created in 1982. Its objective is to promote scientific research, innovation and transfer of knowledge in accordance with technology and innovation policies.

Currently, there are three research groups in this Research Center:

• Juridical Research Group,
• Procedural Law,
• Intellectual Property.

CIECA Research Center: CIECA promotes scientific research, innovation and transfer of knowledge through the under-graduate and postgraduate programs of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in fields related to business administration, accounting, international business administration, marketing, tourism business administration and agribusiness administration in accordance with the technology and innovation policies of the sector.

CEIN Research Center: CEIN promotes scientific research, innovation and transfer of knowledge through the under-graduate and postgraduate programs of the Faculty of Engineering in fields, such as: civil engineering, environmental engineering, systems engineering, financial engineering, telecommunications and financial engineering in accordance with the technology and innovation policies of the sector.

CIC Research Center: CIC promotes scientific research, innovation and transfer of knowledge through the under-graduate and postgraduate programs of the Faculty of Communications, in fields related to corporate relations (P.R.), audiovisual languages and graphic advertising in accordance with the technology and innovation policies of the sector.

CICBA Research Center: CICBA promotes scientific research, innovation and transfer of knowledge through the under-graduate and postgraduate programs of the Department of Basic Sciences in accordance with the technology and innovation policies of the sector.

• Nanostructured Materials and Bio-modeling (MATBIOM),
• Scientific Modeling and Computation (MC2),
• Science of Earth and Space.

CICSH Research Center: The Social and Human Sciences Research Center was created in 2012 and has as a goal to strengthen research activities in the Department of Social and Human Sciences. This is realized in accordance with the national science and technology policies focused on scientific research management and the implementation of policies and strategies aimed at strengthening the development of a research culture.

Objective:

The Social and Human Sciences Research Center promotes scientific research, innovation and transfer of knowledge through the under-graduate and postgraduate programs of the Department of Social and Human Sciences.

The laboratories of UNIVERSIDAD DE MEDELLIN with the support of specialized equipment allow the development of research activities and enable students to strengthen their knowledge and collaborative activities in different fields. The University has received major awards as a result of the research work that has been performed at a national and international level.

The Center is equipped with accredited laboratories in the areas of Civil and Environmental Engineering, in compliance with the guidelines established by NTC ISO/IEC 17025:2005 for testing and calibration laboratories.
