Demining Vehicle ANT1

The  characteristics of this vehicle are the following:

  • It weighs 160 kg and can be disassembled into 5 pieces in order for a demining group to be able to carry it to the area of operations in backpacks.
  • It can withstand impacts of 1 kg of pentolite.
  • It costs 20 times less than a BOZENA Mine Clearing Vehicle.
  • It can climb slopes of a 45 degree angle.
  • It is manufactured in Colombia using indigenous technology.

In Colombia, 80% of deaths and injuries in the Army (including civilian casualties) are caused by landmines. According to the latest report submitted by OCHA (United Nations’ Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) in 2009, the figures show that an average of three people a day are involved in accidents related to landmines.

This is one of the most important projects related to anti-explosive technology in the country.

Demining Vehicle ANT2

The ANT-2 is an improved version of the initial prototype ANT-1 and it also has the capability to destroy mines when stepping on or passing over them.

The anti-personnel mines that are found in Colombia are completely different from those present in the rest of the world and for this reason specific anti-mine systems and devices are required in order to neutralise them. The anti-personnel mines found in the Colombian territory are usually handmade, not mass produced and in the majority of the cases do not contain metal. For this reason, traditional explosive detection methods, such as metal detectors, are useless and even trained dogs might not result useful in this case.

For the aforementioned reasons the minesweeper vehicles manufactured by TECNOLOGIAS MARTE S.A.S. are the best option for the Colombian environment, as they are equipped with a shaft and a series of chains that rotate and hit the ground, detonating the mine.

Compared to similar vehicles, ANT-2’s main advantages are portability, cost and weight. To facilitate transportation purposes, the ANT-2 vehicle can be divided into five modules of 30kg each. It also costs six times less than similar vehicles and weighs only 150 kg compared to an average de-mining vehicle that weighs no less than 5 tons.

The ANT-2 has a hybrid engine, powered by both gasoline and batteries. The ANT-2 is a tracked vehicle and this improves the capability of the same to move in all terrain environment compared to the prototype which moves on wheels. It is equipped with cutting systems and soil penetration devices in accordance with international standards. It is armoured to support explosions caused by up to 4kg pentolite.
