Instituto de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas para la Defensa (CITEDEF)

CITEDEF is an Argentine federal agency in charge of research and development in various scientific fields. It is also in charge of homologation of weaponry.

CITEDEF is one of the scientific and technological organisms that depend on the Ministry of Defense and its Secretary of Planning. The institute currently develops and implements scientific research and technological development programs mainly for the Armed Forces, the state owned Fabricaciones Militares and Fabrica Argentina de Aviones.

Among its main objectives are the delivery of prototypes and preseries for the Armed Forces and other defense institutions, the transfer of technology to the production units of the Defense Ministry, the standardization of equipment and its classification as defense material, the provision of technical advice to the Ministry of Defense, Foreign Affairs and Economy, the refurbishing and modernization of systems, the development of dual-use technologies, the provision of consulting, analysis and calibration services on equipment according to the requirements of the Armed Forces and other agencies, and the signing of agreements with various academic institutions, universities and national and international organizations.
