VARD has a proven track record as a high-quality shipbuilder within a broad range of vessels and markets. As part of VARD’s aquaculture strategy, VARD acquired in November 2016 Storvik Aqua, a leading equipment supplier within aquaculture with over 30 years history – known for equipment and systems such as biomass measurement, feeding equipment and oxygen optimization tools.
Storvik Aqua’s head office in Norway, including its entities in Chile and Scotland are now being renamed Vard Aqua. This as part of an integration process where the operations are tighter coordinated with other companies in VARD, including the shipyard Vard Aukra, dedicated for building vessels and barges within aquaculture.
The name VARD derives from the Norwegian word “varde”, which refers to a small tower of stones used since ancient times as a navigation mark along the coast to guide ships, the name embodies the group’s maritime heritage and long history in shipbuilding. It also symbolizes its ambition to lead the way in the industry, reflecting VARD’s size, position and goal to be a preferred partner for technologically advanced solutions. Probably, a rather suitable name in light of the move the group now is doing within aquaculture.
Through the integration of Vard Aqua, VARD has strengthened its offering and stepped up the commitment within aquaculture. VARD offers a range of products and systems within aquaculture, such as live fish carriers, feeding boats, service boats and barges as well as fish farming technology and solutions to help build sustainable and efficient operations – inshore, offshore, at sea and on land.
General manager in Vard Aqua in Norway, Svein Arve Tronsgård commented: “We are delighted to be part of VARD’s strategy within aquaculture. Through our long history, we have built competence and developed a range of products within aquaculture. Together with the VARD-family and our customers, we have a lot to offer to ensure future growth of sustainable and strong fish farming operations.”
This week VARD is present at the AquaNor exhibition in Trondheim, Norway to present product offering within aquaculture. Yard director at Vard Aukra and director for VARD’s overall aquaculture business, Geir Larsen, comments: «We are really looking forward to presenting our broad portfolio of vessels, barges, equipment and solutions at AquaNor. There will be opportunities to test VARD’s unique and user-friendly SeaQ bridge solution applied for vessels and barges, as well as getting to know our new FishSense feeding and monitoring system, our bio mass estimator AkvaVision and other technology solutions.»
