LOOP-LOC, manufacturer of inground pool covers that services New Jersey, shares ways to cut down on energy waste this summer.

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., June 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- With summer almost here, inground pool covers are off and pool equipment is up and running. Cleaning and maintaining that crystal-clear water can waste energy--and be costly. Here are some ways to cut down on energy waste this summer.

Use an energy-efficient pool pump. Having a smaller, higher efficiency pump and operating it less frequently is an excellent way to lower pool energy costs. Many pool owners run their pumps longer than necessary. It is not necessary to keep the water circulating constantly to keep the pool chemicals mixed. Use a skimmer to gather dirt and debris when the pump is not on. Try reducing filtration time to six hours. If the water is dirty, increase the pump's running time in 30-minute increments until the water is the desired cleanliness. A timer can also be used to control the pump.

Use the pool heater sparingly. Turn down the heater temperature--or turn if off--when no one is using the pool. It is also a good idea to cover the pool when it is not in use. It is also important to select the right heater. While gas pool heaters heat the pool water quickly and efficiently, it makes sense to use a solar or electric pool heater if the pool is used every day. Gas heaters are more efficient if they only need to be run for short periods of time. Make sure to take the following factors into consideration when choosing a pool heater: size, length of swimming season, average temperatures, optimal pool temperature, and how often a pool cover is used.
