itslearning Introduces New E-book on Closing the Equity Gap in Education

BOSTON, Nov. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In an ideal world, public education systems would tailor education opportunities to each student's needs so that all students can succeed. In short, public education would provide equity. But in the real world, where funding, resources and time can be scarce, educators may struggle to find the most effective way to achieve equity. In its new e-book, "Technology + Curriculum = Equity," itslearning offers its perspective on the right approach which advocates for the pairing of educational technology with curriculum as the best approach for improving educational equity for K-12 students.

As proof of the efficacy of this approach, the e-book cites the efforts of the Houston Independent School District (HISD) to close its learning equity gap through the implementation of its "HUB" digital ecosystem and the gains in learning achieved with just the initial pilot for all students, including Hispanic, African American, and economically disadvantaged pupils. Powered by itslearning, the HUB is a robust a district-wide learning management system where students and teachers can access exemplar courses and standards-aligned digital resources and also create, communicate and collaborate.

"Technology is a great facilitator of educational equity, regardless of a student's socioeconomic background," said Arne Bergby, CEO of itslearning. "Among the many issues it can help educators address and overcome are providing access to multiple sources of high quality content, introducing learning methods that promote active learning and collaboration, shrinking long-standing equity and accessibility gaps and also adapting learning experiences to meet the personalized needs of all learners."

Bergby continued, "Being able to resolve those issues is essential to giving traditionally underserved students, including minorities and low-income students, the support they deserve. When schools achieve equity, students are treated to more expansive opportunities and the ability to successfully compete for jobs. We created this e-book to help educators think about these lines and begin devising ways in which they can implement an inclusive digital learning environment."
