A new testing strategy for Legionella, the Next Day Legionella PCR, uses a rapid analytical method which detects Legionella DNA in a water sample and determines which samples are Legionella DNA-free. The study describes validation test results for 11,125 building water samples analyzed by Phigenics Analytical Services Laboratories from 2018-2019. Results from Next Day Legionella PCR negative screen analyses were compared to results from the conventional culture method (ISO 11731). 99.9% of PCR-negative samples reported the next day after sampling were culture-negative when reported after 10 days incubation. Next day results for the PCR are made possible by using the innovative protocol, P.U.R.E.(TM) (Phigenics Ultra Rapid DNA Extraction) to significantly reduce analysis time.
