2021 iaedp(TM) Symposium Announces Keynote Speakers as Early Registration Continues

PEKIN, Ill., Dec. 19, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp(TM)) 2021 Symposium announces keynote speakers to headline its annual conference for eating disorders treatment professionals slated to premiere virtually on March 18.

Planning and production efforts also are underway with the iaedp(TM) team as early registration continues through February 12, offering significant savings for advance registrants. With the virtual format, participants have the opportunity from anywhere on the globe to access all presentations and workshops with no pressure of a defined schedule.

The keynote speakers are:

Cynthia M. Bulik, PhD, FAED is Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders in the Department of Psychiatry in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also is Professor of Nutrition in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and founding director of the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders. Additionally, Dr. Bulik is a professor in the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.

Dr. Emilio J. Compte is an Assistant Professor at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (Chile), Clinical Research Associate al Comenzar de Nuevo Treatment Center (México) and Invited Professor at European University of Madrid (Spain). Dr. Compte holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology (Belgrano University, Argentina), a specialization degree in Statistics for Health Sciences (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina), a master's degree in Psychology Research Methods (University of Granada, Spain), and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain). In 2018-2019, Dr. Compte completed a postdoctoral visiting program from the Fulbright Commission at the University of California, San Francisco (USA). Dr. Compte has been appointed as Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Eating Disorders, Body Image, and Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention. Additionally, he has been selected as co-chair of the International Conference on Eating Disorders in 2021. His current research interests are related to body dissatisfaction and eating disorders among men and in sexual minorities.

Neuroscientist John Cryan, PhD investigates how the gut microbiome affects the mammalian brain. He is Chair of the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience and Principal Investigator in the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Center at University College of Cork (Ireland) and is co-editor of the books, Behavioral Neurogenetics and Gut Microbiome and Behavior.

Adele Lafrance, PhD is a clinical psychologist, research scientist, and author. She is co-developer of Emotion-Focused Family Therapy. Dr. Lafrance is a leader in the research and practice of psychedelic medicine, with a focus on ayahuasca, MDMA, and psilocybin. She is the clinical investigator and strategy lead for the MAPS-sponsored MDMA-assisted psychotherapy study for eating disorders and a collaborator on the Imperial College study for psilocybin and anorexia nervosa. She also is co-developer of Emotion-Focused Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy. Adele has a particular interest in mechanisms and models of healing, including spirituality, emotion processing, and couples and family therapy.
