Advanced Performance Detectors

PHOTONIS Advanced Performance Detectors (APDs) are plug-and-play electo-optic assemblies which provide a complete housing, facilitating manufacturing assembly, repair or replacement to mass spectrometers and other machines. Available for new machines or as replacement cartridges for existing models, over 200 types, with cartridge-mounted MCP, further simplifying additional repairs.

PHOTONIS Advanced Performance Detectors (APDs) satisfy applications ranging from mass spectrometry to UV and X-ray astronomy. Most of these detector assemblies are designed for use in ultra-high vacuum systems and the 300°C temperatures reached during chamber cleaning, therefore saving time that would otherwise be required to remove the detector. Readout schemes - including photodiode array, phosphor screen, CCD camera, or direct electrical signal - are available.

Cameras

PHOTONIS is market leader in photon imaging and has successfully incorporated image sensors into complete cameras and camera assemblies. The company's cameras are designed with PHOTONIS detectors, while providing ease-of-use for in-depth image capture and analysis. These cameras and accessories are specifically developed with Night Vision, Homeland Security and Surveillance, Scientific applications in mind.

PHOTONIS offers a variety of camera options to service a wide range of detection and imaging applications. By combining the world’s best detectors directly into easy-to-use cameras, customers are guaranteed that the images can be successfully captured, whether they are single frame or moving video.

Channeltron® Electron Multipliers

PHOTONIS is the world’s largest supplier of standard, retrofit and custom electron multipliers for mass spectrometry. Their advanced designs provide the highest sensitivity through superior signal collection and noise reduction. PHOTONIS is the original manufacturer of Channeltron® electron multipliers, which offer the highest dynamic range to assure an absolutely linear response beyond the limits of most analytical instruments.

Due to their low mass and high gain, electron multipliers are used in many nuclear physics labs and space applications to count electrons and charged particles in pulse mode operation. Typical applications include mass spectrometry, RGA, plasma analysis, Auger, electron spectrometers, SEM, FIB and leak detectors. PHOTONIS offers two different types of electron multipliers: Open and Single Channel. Open multipliers are used in a number of mass spectrometry applications. Single channel electron multipliers are used in the detection core of many scientific instruments.

Electron Generator Arrays

PHOTONIS’ patented ELECTROGEN™ Electron Generator Arrays (EGAs) consist of millions of precision glass tubes fused together to produce a uniform and mechanically rigid structure. They are processed such that, when a voltage is applied across the thickness, each pore produces a beam of electrons.

Because each of the millions of pores produce electrons, the resultant electron flux is extremely uniform and dense. EGAs can be used as the electron source in electron impact ionization source applications. This technology has the advantage of performing as a cold ionization source, which eliminates pyrolytic effects that occur when the heat generated by the filament chemically changes the unknown substances to be identified.

Fiber Optic Light Guides

PHOTONIS Flexible Fiber Optic Light Guides transmit light through glass optical fibers. These light guides collect light in a large acceptance angle, typically 82°, which is equivalent to a f/0.57 lens.

Glass Coated Wires

PHOTONIS is the pioneer of glass coated wire technology. Originally designed to improve the electrical characteristics of ion-generating corona wires, glass coated wires today can be used in high-speed printing, high temperature sensing, corrosive atmosphere wiring, and electrostatic precipitation.

As a leader in night vision sensor technologies, PHOTONIS is well-positioned to extend their detection technologies into the Homeland Security arena. PHOTONIS' sensors can detect the presence of specific chemical, radiation or gas threats, perform image mapping and even assist with forensic science investigations, while their low-light CMOS cameras can provide day-through-night imaging for both static and mobile applications.

As global tensions increase, the need for 24/7 surveillance to protect both mobile and fixed assets must be reliable under a wide range of environmental and operational conditions. Cameras chosen as part of a wide area surveillance network need to have the capability to provide quality imaging across a wide range of lighting conditions and also have simple connectivity options for easy installation and service.

The advent of digital imaging technologies has assisted in increasing resolution of targets at long‐range to achieve better detection and recognition abilities. High resolution cameras can, at long distances, produce a good quality image, and software can easily zoom or enhance the high resolution image to provide some increased level of recognition without physically moving closer to the object in question.

In order to address the technical concerns that plague long‐range observation in low lighting conditions, PHOTONIS has developed NOCTURN, a low‐light CMOS camera. NOCTURN provides a high frame rate with a high resolution, making the camera well‐suited for long range observations ‐ even of high speed moving objects ‐ without the need for supplemental illumination or cooling. The digital architecture also prevents damage from sudden bright event damage and halos, allowing it to operate equally well in full daylight conditions as well as in low light situations.

The PHOTONIS Image Intensifier Tube is used for a number of low-light and surveillance detection systems including night vision. The wide variety of phosphor screen and photocathode options allow for customization based on application. PHOTONIS' versatile sensors also provide unique photon sensitivity for forensic science use.
